CLASS REQUIREMENTS
Thread Painting with Pam Holland
Four-day Class: Thursday – Sunday, April 13 to 16
Class times: Thursday and Friday 10am to 5pm, Saturday and Sunday 9am to 5pm
Participants to bring:
- An A4 image printed on fabric – and backed with fusible web. You can use spoonflower or Zazzle. zazzle.com.au is faster. The image could be a face or even an animal image.
One piece of fabric at least 6″ larger than your image that will compliment your picture. It acts as a frame. - The backing fabric: You will need back fabric and thin cotton batting the same size.
You could make the sandwich before class, and we will iron the picture on.
Don’t prewash the fabric.
- Small sharp scissors
- Rotary cutter
- Ruler and small cutting mat
- Masking tape
- Mechanical pencil
- Basic sewing kit: scissors, pins, etc
- Safety pins for pinning the quilt
- Masking tape to tape the quilt prior to pinning
- 1 x Teflon appliqué mat
- 50 weight cotton threads to match the colour of your image. You will need approximately 8 different shades, although you can use more. I prefer Aurifil as you can buy small reels.
- A bobbin for each colour
- For the best results please use cotton thread, not rayon or polyester.
- 1 pkt 80/12 sharp needles, Schmetz makes an anti-glue needle, which is preferable. I will also have some of these in class.

- 1 Faber Castell pit artist pen cold grey 233 – available at Officeworks
- Machines will be supplied and will need an open toed free motion foot (it is best if you have the front of the foot completely open) size 24 for Bernina or a free motion combination foot for Janome. Participants do not need to bring their own foot unless they are bringing their own machine.
